About Hunter Region Botanic Gardens

Hunter Region Botanic Gardens spreads across 125 hectares of native plantings, bushland and walking trails beside the Pacific Highway at Heatherbrae. Volunteers look after the grounds, and the setting suits couples and groups who want an outdoor celebration among trees and water. Couples can choose from three outdoor ceremony settings. The Eucalyptus Lawn is the main open space, with a Victorian-style rotunda at its centre and broad lawns and paths where guests can gather. The same lawn also hosts fairs and music events. The Bush Chapel is a grove ringed by bushland and entered through a rustic timber arch, with a water feature and eight wooden pews. It can be styled with topiary trees, natural hessian and a decorated entrance. The Lily Pond offers fountains and sculptures alongside lawn and paved areas for a quieter ceremony. For corporate and club functions, the gardens offer the Banksia Room, a screened space next to the Visitor Centre and the Kookaburra Café. Open areas of the grounds can be used too, and a marquee can be set up on site for a reception. The volunteer-run Kookaburra Café serves homemade food and coffee and takes group bookings with a choice of menus. A barbecue facility is available on request, and guided walks through the gardens can be arranged when booked ahead. Bookings are essential and hire fees apply, with prices given on enquiry, including for elopement packages. Catering and event plans are flexible, so send an enquiry with your date and guest numbers to start planning.
