About Where the Heart Is
Where the Heart Is is a Melbourne wedding film and photography business led by Mat (Matthew), a photographer and cinematographer who works only on weddings. The focus is on building a genuine connection with each couple, so the day can unfold naturally in front of the camera rather than feeling staged. Before the wedding, Mat meets couples in person and asks them to fill in a detailed questionnaire about themselves, their families and their plans. By the day itself he knows who matters most, which lets him move through the preparations, ceremony and reception without directing every moment. On the day the coverage blends organised portraits with the unplanned moments – a long hug with a grandparent, tears during the vows, the dance floor late at night. The films are personalised edits that tell the couple's story, and the photography follows the same unposed, documentary feel. Mat also sees himself as part of the support crew, happy to fix a buttonhole or fetch a forgotten bouquet, and he takes time to chat with guests so they relax around the camera.
