About The Surveyor General Inn
The Surveyor General Inn stands on the Old Hume Highway in Berrima, near the spot where the road crosses the Wingecarribee River. Convict labourers built it in 1834 from local sandstone and brick, and it has held a licence ever since the following year. Its main dining room, Bistro 1834, seats up to 160 and opens off the inn's old stone corridors as well as the beer garden and verandah. Display cabinets and wall hangings in the bistro hold mementoes from the inn's early decades. For private events the inn has function spaces that work for anything from 10 to 100 people. Birthdays, engagement parties, pre-wedding drinks, recovery lunches the day after a wedding and family reunions are all gatherings it hosts. Function menus are built around canapés, starting at $40 per person for five hot and cold pieces. The $50 tier adds a slider and a dessert, and the $60 tier adds two of each. Groups can also order from the everyday bistro menu, which covers burgers, schnitzels, wagyu rump and salads. A package booking is locked in once a 25% deposit is paid, while drinks-only or à la carte group bookings carry a flat $100 deposit instead. Evening functions wrap up by 11pm from Monday to Saturday and by 10pm on Sundays. The team is happy to shape an event around your budget, mixing packages with the regular menu.
