About SamiKata Tipi Events

SamiKata Tipi Events hires Nordic tipis (known as Katas) and sailcloth Sperry Tents for weddings, birthdays, corporate dinners and outdoor parties around Byron. The business runs from a warehouse at Newrybar with a crew of locals, so the team is close by on the day if wind or rain means the side walls need adjusting. The tipis are built on solid wooden poles with light tan canvas and can be put up singly or linked into a bigger shape. Sperry Tents use white sailcloth, timber poles and flags on each peak, and come in six sizes – from a 10 x 16 tent for 64 to 140 guests to a 20 x 38 tent for 300 to 500. Round tents of 5 m and 10 m suit a bar, a band or DJ booth or a small dinner. All of the tents are waterproof, and a membrane can go under the matting if the ground is wet. Lighting is part of the look: fairy lights up the nine main poles, coloured up-lights into the canopy, pin spots, a 60 cm mirror ball, festoon strings inside and out and rope lights around the skirt. For corporate clients the team can add a branded banner between tipi peaks, company flags on the Sperry Tents or logo projections onto the canvas. SamiKata also hires tables, chairs, benches, lounges, bars and styling props, styled in Coastal, Moroccan, Bohemian Luxe, Tribal or Hamptons themes. Because the tents are peg and pole, they go up on grass or sand only, and a free site visit is offered for private properties and venues the crew has not worked at before. Frequently asked questions

What size tent do we need for our guest list?

It depends on guest numbers, whether the event is seated or cocktail, and what goes inside such as a dance floor or bar. As a guide, SamiKata's Sperry Tents range from 64–140 guests in the 10 x 16 size to 300–500 guests in the 20 x 38 size.

Can SamiKata put a tent up on any surface?

No. The tipis and tents are peg and pole structures, so they need grass or sand. The crew also checks there is flat ground, room for their vehicle and trailer, and no overhead wires, low trees or hard structures in the way.

What happens if it rains or gets windy?

The tents are waterproof and the sides can be lowered. If the ground is wet before the event, a waterproof membrane can go under the flooring, and because the crew is based at Newrybar they can come back to adjust the walls.

Will SamiKata visit our property before we book?

Yes. For private properties, or venues the team has not set up at before, SamiKata does a free site visit with no obligation to check the land size, the ground and access for the delivery trailer.

Can the tents carry our company branding?

Yes. For corporate dinners, launches and gala events SamiKata can hang a branded banner between the tipi peaks, fly company flags on the Sperry Tents or project a logo onto the canvas.
