About Slide McBride
Slide McBride is both a band and its frontman, a singer who doubles on electric guitar, ukulele, trumpet and trombone. The band is based in Sydney and has travelled to the Southern Highlands for weddings, including a reception at the Burrawang School of Arts Hall and another at the Robertson Public House. At the Burrawang wedding Slide also played solo at the ceremony, then the band gave an acoustic jazz set over pre-dinner drinks before the dancing. A typical night builds slowly. Swing and crooner standards play while guests arrive, lighter ukulele songs fill dinner, and the electric guitar comes out for extended dance sets mixing funk, soul, pop, rock and classic hip hop. His repertoire also reaches back to 1920s jazz and bossa nova. The usual line-up is four players, Slide singing and on horns plus guitar, bass and drums, and a female vocalist or saxophone makes it a five-piece. Smaller options run to a trio, a duo or Slide alone with guitar, ukulele or trombone, and a roving three-piece plays on the move without a stage or power. Requests are taken in advance or on the night, and guests can get up and sing. Pricing is worked out per player, with a four-hour minimum on Saturday nights and three hours at other times.
