About Q Strings
Q Strings is a string group based in Wollongong whose players have spent more than 15 years performing at weddings in the Southern Highlands. The group plays guests in before a ceremony, accompanies the aisle walk and the signing, and can stay on through canapes and drinks. Beyond weddings it plays engagement parties, proposals, corporate events, private dinners and milestone birthdays. Three line-ups are offered. The trio of two violins and a cello has the fullest sound and suits a larger ceremony, while the violin and cello duet is gentler for a smaller wedding or dinner. A solo violinist is the simplest choice for an intimate moment, drawing on part of the repertoire rather than the whole catalogue. The repertoire runs from Bach, Pachelbel, Handel, Mozart and Debussy to string arrangements of the Beatles, Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran, plus film and musical themes. If a song that matters to you is missing from the list, the ensemble can arrange it, and a small sourcing and arranging cost may be added to the quote. The players arrive 20 minutes before the start time, so nothing needs setting up on your side. For a Highlands booking, ask the venue to provide chairs and a shaded spot away from harsh sun. A small travel fee applies once an event is more than 30 km from the ensemble's base, which is worth allowing for at a Highlands venue. Frequently asked questions
Does Q Strings play Southern Highlands weddings?
Yes. The ensemble has played weddings in the Southern Highlands for more than 15 years and keeps a page on its own site for Highlands couples, covering ceremonies, receptions and private events.
Which line-up should we choose?
The trio of two violins and a cello suits a larger ceremony or an outdoor estate setting. The duet works for smaller weddings and dinners, and a solo violinist suits a proposal or a very small gathering.
Can they play a song that is not on their list?
Yes. Name the piece you have in mind for walking down the aisle, signing the register or any other moment, and they will arrange it. A small extra cost for sourcing and arranging may be included in your quote.
Is there a travel fee for the Highlands?
A small travel fee applies to any event more than 30 km from the ensemble's base. Check it in your personalised quote when you give the name of your Highlands venue.
What do the musicians need on the day?
Seating for each player and a spot out of harsh sun. They arrive 20 minutes before the agreed start time and are set up and ready to play when guests arrive.
