About Wangi Queen Showboat
Wangi Queen Showboat is a red and white timber ferry built in 1922 and now based on the Tilligerry side of Port Stephens. The vessel, around 20 metres long, was added to the national maritime heritage register for its place in Australian boat building, and it has hosted close to a thousand weddings and countless birthdays over its working life. For a private charter you take over the whole boat. The site names 21sts, 50ths, small wedding parties, golden wedding anniversaries, end-of-year school formals and high school reunions as the kind of events it hosts. Milestone celebrations usually run as a three-hour cruise, and the crew can point you towards a Tanilba Bay stylist for theming, balloons and table decorations if you want the boat dressed for the day. The route covers the calmer western waters of the bay: Soldiers Point and the view to the heads, Fame Cove, North Arm Cove, Garden Island, and the old settlements at Tahlee and Carrington. Dolphins, seabirds and the odd green turtle are regular sights, though nobody can promise them. Open-air decks sit alongside a covered saloon with windows that open or close with the weather, and there are toilets on the lower deck. The boat carries its own licensed bar and café, so drinks are bought from the bar rather than brought along. Food is flexible: the crew can cater to a per-head budget you agree on, or you can self-cater with their food safety supervisor guiding you. Groups of up to 100 are the sweet spot, since larger numbers require a security guard under the liquor licence. Send an enquiry through Party Hero with your date, numbers and boarding preference.

Frequently asked questions
Where does Wangi Queen board for a private charter?
Private charters board at the public wharf in Lemon Tree Passage or at Taylors Beach. Boarding at Nelson Bay or Karuah can be arranged for an extra $250 to cover bringing the vessel round.
How many guests can come on a private cruise?
The boat handles groups of up to about 100 comfortably. It can carry more, but anything over 100 needs a security guard on board under the liquor licence, which adds to the cost.
Can we bring our own food or drinks?
You can self-cater the food for a private charter, with the onboard food safety supervisor helping you meet the standards. Drinks are a different story: the bar is fully licensed and BYO alcohol is not allowed.
What can the crew cater for a celebration?
The crew will help set a budget for each guest and design a menu to suit. Coeliac, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and pescatarian diets can be covered if you let them know when booking.
Is the boat suitable for older guests or anyone using a walker?
Yes, walkers, small wheelchairs and prams can come aboard, and there are toilets on the lower deck. Talk through any mobility needs before you book so the crew can plan boarding.
