About Myall Street Studio

Myall Street Studio is a small pottery studio in a shopfront on Myall Street, Tea Gardens. Everything here revolves around clay: the studio teaches wheel throwing and hand-building, runs school holiday sessions for kids, fires work in its own kilns and sells pottery supplies. The studio's Clay Play Parties are its private group option. Adults can book a private clay evening, where the group spends a night building pieces from clay together. Kids' birthday parties follow the same idea at a lower price, with young guests making their own clay creations. Parties seat between four and eight people, so the whole group works side by side at one table. There is no pressure to be skilled. The studio's approach is that a clay piece doesn't need to look a certain way, and first-timers are encouraged to make something that is entirely their own. For ideas, look at the range made here: wheel-thrown mugs and cups, glaze-painted plates and bowls, garden planters, sculptural giftware and porcelain jewellery. Local artists and photographers also have work hanging on the studio walls. If one evening isn't enough, the studio offers private wheel lessons and weekday hand-building classes during school terms. Send an enquiry with your group size and preferred date to book a party.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can come to a clay party?

Clay Play Parties seat groups of four to eight people, which keeps everyone around the same table and gives the potter time to help each guest with their piece.

How much does a party cost?

An adult clay evening is $85 a person, and a kids' birthday clay party is $45 a person. Send an enquiry with your numbers and preferred date to check availability.

Do we need any pottery experience?

No experience is needed. The studio encourages beginners to have a go and make something of their own, rather than worrying about whether it looks like a shop-bought piece.

Is there an option for kids' birthdays?

Yes. Kids' birthday parties are part of the Clay Play Parties offer at $45 a child, for groups of four to eight. The studio also runs separate kids' clay sessions during the school holidays.

Can someone keep learning after the party?

Yes. The studio offers private wheel throwing lessons at $100 for two lessons of two hours each, plus hand-building classes on weekdays during school terms and on Saturday mornings.
