About Port Stephens Surf School
Port Stephens Surf School has taught at One Mile Beach since 2003. The beach sits in a sheltered corner of the coast, and its gentle waves and sandy bottom suit beginners, families and children. The school is locally owned and its coaches are Surfing Australia accredited. Lesson numbers are kept small so everyone gets proper attention. Groups are a big part of what the school does. Hens and bucks parties, birthdays from kids' celebrations to milestone surprises, corporate days and school groups can all book a private session. A group day can be a single surf lesson, or a mix of surfing with stand up paddling on a giant SUP and body boarding. Beach games such as volleyball, cricket and touch footy, beach yoga and a coastal walk can be added, and corporate bookings can run as half or full days. Every lesson includes a soft-top board, wetsuit, rash shirt and natural sunscreen, so guests only need swimmers and a towel. Coaches meet the group at their van beside the beachfront restaurant, and everyone completes an online waiver first. Smaller groups of up to five can also book a private lesson, and board, SUP and wetsuit hire is available on the beach. Send an enquiry to plan your group session.

Frequently asked questions
Which groups does the surf school take?
Private group sessions are run for hens and bucks parties, birthday parties from kids to milestone ages, corporate and team days, and school groups. After you share your group type, size and dates, the team comes back with options and a quote.
What can a group day include besides surfing?
Groups can combine a surf lesson with stand up paddling, including a giant SUP the whole crew rides together, plus body boarding, beach volleyball, cricket, soccer or touch footy, beach yoga or a coastal walk. Packages range from one lesson to a full mix of activities.
What should everyone pack for the lesson?
Swimmers and a towel are all you need. The school supplies a soft-top surfboard, wetsuit, rash shirt and natural sunscreen for every participant, and everyone signs an online waiver before getting in the water.
Where do we meet for the lesson?
Coaches meet each group at their branded van, parked beside the beachfront restaurant on Hannah Parade in One Mile. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your start time so everyone can get suited up.
How much does a private lesson cost for a small group?
A one-hour private lesson costs $190 for one person, $340 for two, $490 for three, $640 for four and $790 for five. An extra coach joins groups of four or five when available. Larger party groups are quoted separately.
