About The Old Mechanics
The Old Mechanics is a heritage-listed building on Church Street in Healesville, dating from 1892 and restored by its owners into four self-contained apartments. It is run by the same hosts as the Tuck Inn next door, and suits couples coming to the Yarra Valley for a wedding, an anniversary weekend or a milestone birthday dinner in town. All four apartments are designed for two adults, and children are not accommodated. The Queen Studio is a compact 26 m² ground-floor room with hill views, while the King Studio upstairs is 35 m² with views towards Mt St Leonard. The two King Gallery apartments are the roomiest at 63 m², with a lounge, kitchenette and toilet downstairs and a loft bedroom with ensuite above. Each has a kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle, but no stove or oven. The building sits just up the hill from the town centre, so guests can leave the car in the free off-street parking at the rear and walk to dinner and drinks. A shared outdoor area is available, with no barbecue. The property is non-smoking, pets are not allowed, extra guests cannot be added and a strict no-party policy applies, which makes it a calm retreat after the celebrations.
