Hiring a planner hands the legwork to someone who does it for a living: securing the venue, booking suppliers, keeping the budget in check and running the day. It's most useful when an event has lots of moving parts, or when the people organising it already have full-time jobs.
In Newcastle this family is small so far, with just two listings, and both are corporate event planners. Other kinds of planner will be added over time as the list grows.
How to decide if you need one:
Local knowledge is a big part of the value. A planner who already knows which harbourside rooms take large groups, or how to move people out to a Hunter winery, can save hours of phone calls.
Brief two planners and compare how they'd approach it. You deal with them directly, and Party Hero adds nothing to their fees.

For a small team dinner, probably not. For a conference, launch or a large Christmas party with several suppliers, a planner can save a lot of time and stress.
The planners listed here quote per job rather than showing a price. Some set one fixed price for the whole job, some bill by the hour for smaller tasks, and others take a percentage of the overall budget.
Many Newcastle planners work across the region, including wineries and venues out in the Hunter. Ask about travel costs and whether they've worked at your chosen site before.
Some do, especially for larger celebrations. Ask early, as their calendar may be busy with work functions around the end of the year.
As soon as you have a rough date and budget, ideally before the venue is booked. Planners often know which rooms suit your numbers and which dates are already taken.
Someone runs the event on the day: meeting suppliers, keeping to the run sheet and dealing with problems. You still do the planning and bookings beforehand.
Newcastle's event planning list is still small. More planners will be added over time, but the current two are a good starting point for corporate work.
