About Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat

Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat is a five-acre property on Lomas Lane, beside Werakata National Park and half a kilometre from the Hunter Valley Zoo, with the wineries and restaurants of Lovedale and Pokolbin a few minutes' drive away. It is booked on an exclusive basis for groups of 14 to 35, which suits a wedding party staying together for the weekend, an extended family reunion or a milestone birthday. Weddings and celebrations can be held on site, with up to 30 guests self-managed and larger events of up to 70 run through the property's event management service. The main Lodge is styled like a Canadian hunting lodge, with a stone fireplace under cathedral ceilings and six bedrooms. The ground-floor Stag Room has a four-poster king and can take up to five, Whitetail has a queen and king single bunks, and upstairs three king rooms each have an ensuite. Its semi-commercial kitchen is equipped for 35, with two ovens and two dishwashers, and the dining table seats 20. The Retreat next door has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and its own kitchen for 12, and the Lion's Den, a converted shipping container studio with a French bath on its deck, sleeps three. Outside there is a pool, which closes in winter, a five-person hot tub, a shaded deck with a table for 26, two BBQs, a rotunda by a small dam, bocce, giant chess and croquet. The Bison Den barn holds a cinema area, a pool table, table tennis and board games. There is parking for up to 20 cars, an EV charger, an enclosed dog run and wifi.

The property doesn't publish nightly rates on its site; tariffs vary by date and group size and appear when you check availability or request a quote. A $50 booking fee is added to the tariff, a 50% deposit secures the dates, and the balance is due 45 days before check-in. A security bond of $2000 to $4000 is held as a card pre-authorisation, or a refundable $3000 bond for events. Day guests at a self-managed celebration cost $40 each, BBQ cleaning is charged at $100 if needed.

House Rules & Stay Details

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is 11am on weekends or 10am midweek. Linen, one bath towel per guest, toiletries, hairdryers, irons, Nespresso pods, tea and coffee are supplied; bring pool towels and face washers. The Lodge has two kitchens' worth of equipment for up to 35, there is a laundry with washer and dryer, wifi, Foxtel in two rooms and an EV charger. Dogs are welcome outside, with an enclosed dog run and kennel, but must stay out of the houses. Smoking is not allowed inside, a strict no-party policy applies, amplified music and DJ desks aren't permitted, and the person booking must be at least 25.

How many people does the property sleep?

Between 14 and 35 guests, or 29 in individual beds. There are 10 bedrooms and seven bathrooms across the Lodge and the Retreat, and including the Lion's Den studio brings it to 11 bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Can we hold a wedding or celebration there?

Yes. Events for up to 30 people can be self-managed, with a $40 fee for each day guest. Larger events need the property's event management service, with up to 70 guests on site. Events must finish by 10.30pm and non-staying guests must leave by 11pm.

Are hens or bucks groups accepted?

The property doesn't accept bucks parties or end-of-school celebrations, and the booking terms enforce a strict no-party policy. The person making the booking must be 25 or older.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3pm. Check-out is 11am on weekends and 10am midweek. Early check-in or late check-out may be possible for a fee with at least seven days' notice.
