21st Birthday Party in Wollongong

Your Wollongong 21st Birthday Planning Guide

A 21st is the birthday with a running order: a slideshow of baby photos, a speech from a parent, perhaps a key, and then the dance floor. In Wollongong the rooms that handle that sequence best have a microphone and screens built in, so plan around the formal part first and the party second.

Towradgi Beach Hotel's O Bar takes up to 150 standing and comes with its own bar, a DJ booth, a microphone and two TVs for slideshows. Scarlett's @ Illawarra Steelers Club has a stage, speakers and AV for speeches, and The Loft @ The Builders Club has its own bar and dance floor for 250, with free undercover parking for relatives driving in.

If the guest of honour would rather start with a game, Towradgi Park Bowls and Recreation Club runs barefoot bowls parties on greens with escarpment views and a cocktail bar on site, and Battle Axe Throwing turns a group into a round robin with finals to crown a champion.

People to book once the room is settled:

Music and MC in one: Divine Productions pairs Anthony Hughes on vocals and guitar with DJ and MC duties, from $2,200
A DJ for the dance floor: AMPT DJ Australia, who plans directly with you and plays on the night, or Ultimate DJs, whose packages from $800 can take on MC duties for the speeches
Styling: Owl and Pussycat Events silk floral backdrops, with party packages from $700
Photos: Diamond Booth Co's open-air retro booth with a custom print design, from $760

Turning 18 instead? The 18th birthday party page has activity-led ideas, and MC hire lists hosts who can run the speeches.

North Wollongong Hotel: a top-floor room with a private bar and two balconies, with party packages from $2,700
Terrace Bar & Lounge @ Balgownie Hotel: the whole upper floor and its wrap-around balcony, from $2,000 minimum spend
Towradgi Beach Hotel: buffets from $40 per person, with decks and Hamptons-style cabanas beyond the O Bar

Breakout Bar & Escape Rooms: escape rooms, a hidden cocktail bar and karaoke behind one door on Crown Lane
Wollongong Kart Raceway: heats of up to ten drivers sorted by qualifying time

Finishing touches
