About YHA Pittwater Eco
YHA Pittwater Eco is a 1920s building set into the hillside above Morning Bay, inside Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on the western side of Pittwater, roughly 30 km north of the Sydney CBD. Through YHA's Rent-a-YHA scheme a group can book the entire property, so nobody else is staying while you are there. YHA pitches it at getaways with friends and private celebrations, which makes it a fit for a calm hens weekend or a milestone birthday built around the outdoors rather than bars and clubs. The property sleeps up to 30 across eight rooms: two quad rooms, two doubles, a twin, two family rooms for five and one six-bed room, so the biggest single room holds six. Bunks feature in the shared rooms, and the doubles suit couples or anyone wanting their own space. Everyone shares a large self-catering kitchen with a commercial fridge, oven and cooktops, a gas barbecue, a lounge with a wood fireplace, board games, a guitar, ukulele and keyboard, and a covered veranda with long tables looking over the water. There is no TV and mobile reception is patchy. There are no roads to the door. Drive or bus to Church Point, catch the ferry or a water taxi across to Halls Wharf, then walk about 10 to 15 minutes uphill along a fire trail, with wheelbarrows provided for food and bags. Paid parking sits right by the Church Point wharf, and free untimed spaces are on Bakers Road a short walk away. There are no shops near the hostel, so groups bring every meal with them or order Rent-a-YHA catering ahead of time.

Frequently asked questions
How many people can stay, and how are the rooms split?
Booked exclusively, the hostel takes up to 30 guests in eight rooms: two four-bed rooms, two double rooms, one twin, two family rooms sleeping five and a six-bed room. Exclusive group bookings start at 10 people.
Is it suitable for a hens weekend?
YHA offers the whole property to friends, families and other groups for private getaways and celebrations, though it does not mention hens parties by name. It is a quiet, remote bush setting, so it suits a relaxed weekend of paddling, walks and long dinners rather than a big night out.
What are the house rules on noise and alcohol?
Amplified or loud noise has to stop by 10pm, out of consideration for the neighbours and the wildlife, and guests should keep quiet on the walk up from the wharf. There is no bar on site, and the house rules point out that being drunk is unsafe in such an isolated spot surrounded by water and bush. Drugs are banned, and the entire property is smoke-free, vapes included.
Where do we park, and how do we get across the water?
Cars stop at Church Point. There is paid parking beside the ferry wharf and free untimed parking on Bakers Road, about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the wharf, so drop off food, bags and people first. The ferry runs to Halls Wharf with tickets bought on board, and a return trip is $15 a person. Outside ferry times a water taxi costs about $30 for four to six people.
What are the check-in and check-out times, and is there a minimum stay?
Check-in runs from 1pm to 8pm, and later arrivals need approval beforehand, as getting there in daylight is strongly advised. Check-out is by 10:30am. Weekend group bookings require at least two nights, and the YHA groups team handles exclusive bookings.

After a day of kayaking, this was the perfect place to spend the night. Thomas has been incredibly helpful and even lit the fireplace for us, making the evening extra special. Thank you for the warm hospitality!

Very lovely place. Slightly dark on the outside when coming back at night. Lots of friendly animals and wallabies. Nice and quiet, love being in nature and a great place to relax.
