About Berenbell Vineyard Retreat

Berenbell Vineyard Retreat is a small, owner-run property on Mistletoe Lane at Pokolbin, where hosts Suzie and Ken live on site. It has five self-contained places to stay: three one-bedroom cottages and two two-bedroom lodges, all looking across rows of vines to the Brokenback Range. It suits a couple heading to a Hunter wedding, or a handful of couples taking the whole place for a birthday weekend, so each pair has a private bedroom and bathroom while drinks and meals happen together outside. Children under 12 aren't accepted. Each one-bedroom cottage is a standalone colonial-style brick building with tiled verandahs at the front and back, bay windows facing the view, a queen bed and an ensuite with a clawfoot bath and separate shower. They take two guests. The two lodges share a two-storey brick building with dormer windows; each has a king bedroom and ensuite upstairs, a queen bedroom and ensuite downstairs, and a lounge, dining area and kitchen, for up to four. All stays have air conditioning, a pot-belly fire used from May to October, wifi, a Nespresso machine, a hooded electric BBQ in place of an oven, two hotplates and a microwave. A continental breakfast and a bottle of wine are left ready for arrival. Parking is right outside each cottage or lodge. Restaurants nearby include Botanica, Muse, Eremo, Hunter's Quarter, 4 Pines Brewing and Harrigans, and cellar doors include Tintilla, Keith Tulloch, Tyrrells, De Iuliis, Oakvale and The Hunter Distillery. Hunter Valley Gardens is about 9.5 km away, or 11 minutes by car. There are no buses or trains on the doorstep, so plan on hire cars, wine-tour shuttles, taxis or rideshare.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can stay in each cottage or lodge?

Each one-bedroom cottage takes two guests and each two-bedroom lodge takes four. Extra guests can't be added beyond those numbers.

How are stays priced?

The published prices are for two-night stays: from $560 for two nights for two people in a cottage, and $900 for two nights for four in a lodge. Longer stays and weekly rates are available on request.

Are children and pets welcome?

Berenbell only takes children aged 12 and over, for the comfort of all guests, and it isn't pet friendly.

What deposit is required and what is the cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit secures the booking, with the balance paid at check-in. Cancelling within 14 days of arrival forfeits the deposit.

How do we get to wineries and venues?

There's no public transport nearby, so guests get around by taxi, Uber, hire car, shuttle bus or a wine-tour operator. Blaxland's Inn runs a weekend courtesy bus that should be booked well ahead, and Hunter Valley Gardens is about 11 minutes' drive.
