Fifty is a speeches birthday. Someone will want a microphone, someone will bring a slideshow, and the guest list will stretch from school friends to the neighbours. On the Central Coast the choice usually comes down to which part of the coast suits most guests, and whether the night is a sit-down dinner or a stand-up party.
The Terrigal and Avoca stretch has the most to choose from. The Surf Club Avoca Beach has a first-floor hall with its own stage, covered verandahs and a deck, plus TVs, a projector and a microphone for the toasts. In Terrigal, Swells Terrigal and The Tropic both face the water, and Amarilla can be booked exclusively at Terrigal Haven for 70 seated.
Wyong offers two very different rooms: the 130-seat Dining Room at Royal Hotel Wyong, with two-course menus from $38 per person, and the shared Middle Eastern banquets at Motel Mezza. Up in the hinterland, Mangrove Mountain Memorial Club has an enclosed balcony room looking over its golf course, and The Barn @ Saddles Mount White seats 120 under chandeliers. Wherever the room is, the music can come to it: Midnight Black Band plays from $2,000, Blue Vinyl works through five decades of soul and rock, and DJ Bass Sick takes requests from $700.

The Surf Club Avoca Beach provides TVs, a projector, a sound system and a microphone, and its first-floor hall has its own stage with ocean views from the verandahs.
Mangrove Mountain Memorial Club in Central Mangrove has the Anzac Function Room for 150 standing or about 100 seated, and an enclosed balcony room for 60 seated, with non-member room hire from $400.
Royal Hotel Wyong has two-course function menus from $38 per person, with a private Canoe Club room for 60 seated and a Dining Room for up to 130.
Amarilla, a Spanish-inspired restaurant with a dining room and covered deck on the water, is available exclusively for up to 70 seated or 120 standing. Tapas packages start from $75 per person and drinks packages from $85 per person.
Kangy Gardens in Kangy Angy has two and a half acres of private gardens, a wood-fired pizza oven and the Bellbird Bar, with seated dinners for 80 or canapé receptions for 110.
The Tropic in Terrigal takes 160 seated or 280 standing on exclusive hire, or 22 seated in its private dining room, with shared event menus from $80 per person.
Midnight Black Band, fronted by Courtney Keil and Adam Black, performs as a duo, trio or five-piece from $2,000. Blue Vinyl plays decades of pop, soul, Motown and R&B covers and brings stage lighting with its bigger line-ups, and DJ Bass Sick mixes live from $700.
