Everything to Know About Paint & Sip

Clay instead of canvas, and the idea still works: drinks in hand, a tutor at your elbow and something to take home at the end. Clay Wollongong, a community ceramics studio at 70 Keira Street in the CBD, runs private Wine & Clay handbuilding sessions where guests bring their own drinks and snacks and make a vase, planter, mug or a piece of their own design.

The handbuilding room is bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows, white walls and plenty of plants.

How the session runs:

  • Length – two hours.
  • Group size – 10 to 40 guests.
  • Drinks – BYO, along with food and cups, as the studio is not a hospitality venue.
  • Price – from $50 per person.
  • Finished pieces – glazed and fired by the studio, ready to collect three to four weeks later.

It suits work Christmas parties and birthday get-togethers, and it can be as family-friendly as the group wants.
