About Kidz Party Discos

Kidz Party Discos is a Melbourne business of full-time children's DJs and entertainers who have been running disco parties for around 20 years. They work birthdays, preschool and kindergarten discos, primary school discos and Year 6 graduation nights, and all of their DJs hold a Working with Children Check, with public liability insurance and tested and tagged equipment. Unlike a standard adult DJ, the party DJ stays hands-on with the children. Each party mixes dancing, games and competitions, and the DJ watches how the group responds and adjusts the format as it goes. Simple dance routines are taught where needed, freeze dance and limbo keep everyone moving, and the birthday child is kept at the centre of the activities. Music is chosen to suit the age group, with no explicit lyrics, and families can send through a list of the songs their child loves beforehand. The disco arrives as a single package with a high-quality sound system and colourful lighting and effects that turn a lounge room or hall into a dance floor, and the DJ hands out prizes to reward participation. Ages run from around four years to early teens, and the team also runs all-ability discos for children with additional needs and split sessions for schools with several year groups. For hosts, the main requirements are a room or suitable outdoor area and a 240-volt power point. A home party of about 20 children works well, though larger groups can be catered for. A photo booth can be added, with a DSLR camera, studio lighting, a backdrop, props, unlimited instant prints and an attendant.

Frequently asked questions

What ages do Kidz Party Discos cater for?

Parties suit children from about four years old through to early teens. The DJ picks the music, games and competitions to match the age group, since what a four-year-old enjoys is very different to a tween party.

What do I need to provide for a kids' disco?

Just the space, a 240-volt power point, party food and the children. The DJ brings the sound system, disco lighting and effects, and some prizes to encourage the kids to join in.

Can the party be held at home?

Yes. Home parties in a rumpus room, living room or garage work well, and around 20 children is an ideal number. Outdoor parties are possible too, provided there is a suitable area for the setup.

Will the DJ play the songs my child loves?

Yes. Send a list of requested songs before the party and the DJ will feature them on the day. All music is age-appropriate, and tracks with explicit lyrics are not played.

Is a photo booth available with the disco?

Yes. The photo booth comes with a DSLR camera, studio lighting, a backdrop, props, unlimited instant prints, a USB of all images and a friendly attendant, with free delivery and setup within Melbourne metro.
