About Dantosa Blue Mountains Retreat
Dantosa Blue Mountains Retreat is a private property on Mort Street in Katoomba, set on nine acres of parkland, gardens and native eucalypt forest. Groups hire it outright, so nobody else is staying on the grounds during an event. The estate takes in Dantosa House, the much older Dantosa Cottage, a private lake with a lakehouse, a tennis court with a gazebo, a croquet lawn and an orchard. The gardens run through the seasons, from a long hydrangea walk to rhododendrons, daffodils and autumn colour. For weddings and celebrations the property holds up to 60 people, and the house has a large entertainment room where a seated party can gather. Bigger outdoor events often put a marquee on the tennis court or croquet lawn. Up to 16 guests can sleep over across seven bedrooms in the house and cottage. Bookings come with linen, firewood for the open fireplace, wifi, a Sonos sound system, barbecues and fully equipped kitchens. There is no in-house kitchen service, so hirers bring in a caterer of their choice, a food truck or their own food and drinks. The owners keep a list of local caterers, florists, celebrants, photographers, musicians and hire companies who know the property. A purpose-built underground cellar behind the cottage hosts guided wine tastings for up to 20 people. A local wedding planner can also be engaged to run the day from set-up to pack-down.

The Micro Stay Package is $13,995 for two nights for 16, three days of exclusive use, a cellar tasting and up to 40 day guests. Final rates depend on the season, day of the week, length of stay and guest numbers. Cellar tastings on their own are $695 for up to 16 guests, plus $25 for each extra guest.

How many guests can Dantosa hold for an event?
The events page lists space for up to 60 people for a small wedding. The day and stay packages allow up to 40 day guests, and 16 people can stay overnight in the house and cottage.
What does the Celebration Day Package include?
It is a one-day exclusive hire of the whole property for up to 40 day guests, with early access from 8am and a late finish at 8pm. Longer stay packages add two nights of accommodation for 16 and a tasting in the cellar.
Does Dantosa provide catering?
No, the retreat has no in-house food and beverage service. You can choose your own caterer or food truck, or bring your own food, and the owners can suggest local caterers who have worked there before. They note catering usually costs between $60 and $120 a head depending on the menu and service.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
Yes. Guests may serve and bring their own drinks, and a mobile bar with a bartender can be arranged through the recommended suppliers. The group that makes the booking is responsible for serving alcohol responsibly and keeping noise considerate of the neighbours.
Can we inspect the property before booking?
Yes. Tours run on Friday or early Sunday afternoons when no guests are in residence, and other times can sometimes be arranged during the week. The manager shows you through the house, cottage, cellar and grounds.
