Hotel Challis Potts Point fills two restored Victorian townhouses on Challis Avenue, a heritage-listed building that was once part of the estate of John Henry Challis. It has 54 guest rooms, all with their own ensuite, and is run by The Macleay Group. For an interstate guest in Sydney for a wedding, a 40th or a work function, it is a well-priced, central base, and the hotel says it regularly hosts wedding and birthday groups as well as conference guests, with a group discount once you book five rooms or more. Every room takes up to two people. The Compact Double is the budget option, followed by the Queen Deluxe, the Queen Deluxe with a city outlook over Woolloomooloo Wharf and the Botanic Gardens, the Challis Twin Deluxe with two king single beds, and Premium King rooms, some of which have a balcony over the avenue. Rooms include air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, mini fridge, kettle with tea and coffee, wardrobe, iron and hairdryer. There is no kitchen and breakfast is not included, but cafés and a supermarket on Macleay Street are a few minutes away. A cot or folding bed can be added for a fee. Kings Cross station is roughly 10 minutes on foot, with direct trains to the city and Bondi Junction, and buses into town and out to Bondi stop on Macleay Street. From the airport, a taxi or rideshare is quickest; by train, change at Central for Kings Cross. The Botanic Gardens are about a 20 minute walk, and the Woolloomooloo dining strip is down the stairs at the end of Challis Avenue. There is no on-site parking; reception sells 24-hour tickets for the Wilson car park on Ward Avenue, about 10 minutes' walk away.

Not on site. Ticketed, timed street parking is available on Challis Avenue, Victoria Street and Macleay Street, and reception sells guests a 24-hour ticket for the Wilson Kings Cross car park on Ward Avenue, about 10 minutes' walk away. The ticket allows one entry and exit, and the car park has a 2 metre height limit.
What are the check-in and check-out times, and can I arrive late?
Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am. Reception is staffed 8am to 8pm daily, and later arrivals can check in after hours if you contact the team beforehand. Bags can be stored from 8am if your room is not ready yet.
