About Paramount House Hotel

Paramount House Hotel fills a 1930s brick warehouse and a 1940s office block on Commonwealth Street that were once the Sydney headquarters of Paramount Pictures. It has 29 rooms, restored ceilings and windows, old brick walls, timber floors and terrazzo bathrooms, around an atrium lobby with a 24-hour front desk and a small round-the-clock mini mart. It suits a couple in town for a wedding, an anniversary weekend or a work gala who would rather stay somewhere with character than a big city tower, and the building also houses the Golden Age Cinema, Paramount Coffee Project, Poly and an A.P Bakery outpost. Rooms are built for two. Everyday rooms have a king or queen bed and a day bed, from $240 a night. Sunny rooms add a planted balcony and a king bed, from $300. The split-level Lofts put the bed on a mezzanine above a lounge and a blackbutt timber bath, from $345, and the Mack Daddy Suite, from $525, has three living spaces, a Japanese bath, a large balcony and a premium minibar. Nooks are the snuggest option, with a queen bed. Free cots are available for under-fours in most rooms (not Nooks), and kids beds cost $30 a night. The hotel is about 20 minutes' drive from Sydney Airport. By train, get off at Central and walk around ten minutes, or use Museum Station. Guests can park at the Wilson car park at 175 Liverpool Street for a $30 overnight rate once reception validates the ticket, and a partner gym in the CBD with a pool, sauna and classes is $20 a visit.

There is no gym on site, but guests can use a partner gym on Castlereagh Street for $20. Cots are free for under-fours and kids beds are $30 a night. Accessibility needs can be noted at booking. The hotel is roughly 20 minutes by car from Sydney Airport. On the Airport Link train, get off at Central, then it is about a ten-minute walk or a three-minute drive. Museum Station is also a short walk away.

Street parking nearby is short-term metered only. For overnight parking, use the Wilson car park at 175 Liverpool Street (entry from 26 Nithsdale Street), about three minutes' walk away, and have reception validate your ticket for a $30 overnight rate, added to your room bill. The entry height is 1.94m.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

You can check in from 2pm, and rooms need to be vacated before 11am. The front desk and lobby are open 24 hours, and you can ask reception the day before about a later departure.

Can children stay, and are cots available?

Rooms are generally for two adults, with most taking an infant too and Sunny rooms taking an infant or one child. Cots are free for children up to four years old, kids beds are $30 a night for children up to ten, and Nook rooms cannot fit a cot. Contact the hotel when booking so it can find a suitable room.
