About Collits Inn

Collits Inn is a restored colonial inn on Hartley Vale Road in Hartley Vale, set on 50 acres at the foot of Mount York in the Hartley Valley. Once a resting place for travellers on the first road across the mountains, it now runs as an exclusive-use wedding venue. Ceremonies can be held at several spots across the property, from lookouts over the valley to an aisle formed by a grove of trees or one of the garden settings. The team sets up guest seating, a signing table and a selection of ceremony décor. Receptions move into Pierce's Barn, known simply as The Barn, which keeps its original timber beams and adds an open fireplace and fairy lights. Its handcrafted tables were milled from pine trees that grew in front of the inn, and the room can open onto a paved outdoor area or a connected marquee for dancing. The Full Wedding Package suits 40 to 80 guests, while the Midweek Micro Wedding Package runs Tuesday to Thursday for 20 to 40. Both include the inn's accommodation for up to 12, exclusive use of the grounds and barn from 9am the day before until 11am the day after, and a six-hour drinks package. Executive chef Chris Warren serves canapés in the garden, then shared entrées and mains on platters at each table, with your cake cut and served as dessert. Most dietary needs can be met with notice, and children's meals are available. Receptions finish at 9pm midweek and at midnight from Friday to Sunday. Dogs are welcome with approval; send an enquiry to arrange a tour of the property.

Pricing

The Midweek Micro Wedding Package is $11,100 for 20 adults, with each additional adult $150 up to a maximum of 40, and a $2,500 deposit secures the date. The Full Wedding Package for 40 to 80 guests is priced for 80 adults, with $100 taken off for each adult below 80, and needs a $5,000 deposit.

Children aged 3 and under are free, children aged 4 to 12 are $20 and teenagers are $50, and vendor meals are $30. Final numbers and the balance are due four weeks before the wedding.

Food

Menus are seasonal Modern Australian, served as shared feasts rather than alternate drop. Canapés come first in the garden, choosing four from options such as lamb filo cigars, arancini and lamb kofta, followed by shared entrées and mains such as slow-roast beef rump or crispy pork belly.

Vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian selections are available, and a children's menu can be arranged. Outside catering is not permitted for the reception, and there is no cakeage fee.

Beverages

Both packages include a six-hour drinks package of sparkling wine, beer and soft drinks with canapés, then red and white wine once guests move into The Barn. Two upgraded packages add $20 or $25 per head, and extra hours can be added per head.

Spirits are bought separately from the bar, signature cocktail kegs serving around 60 drinks can be added, and bar tab options are available. BYO alcohol is not permitted.

Availability

Friday, Saturday and Sunday dates are kept for the Full Wedding Package, and micro weddings run Tuesday to Thursday. Send an enquiry to arrange a tour; a deposit and signed terms confirm the date.

A marquee can be hired as a wet-weather backup, or the ceremony can move into The Barn. Another option is to hold it on the front lawn, with the couple under the inn verandah and guests sheltered by clear umbrellas.

Is there a PA system for speeches and music?

Yes. The Barn is fitted with a PA system, a wireless microphone and a pair of large speakers, and an extra speaker can be placed outside for canapés or speeches. Couples are asked to confirm their celebrant will bring a PA for the ceremony.
