Blaq is the restaurant and bar inside the Kyah hotel on Brightlands Avenue in Blackheath. The kitchen cooks seasonal, globally influenced food built on Blue Mountains produce, some of it grown on the hotel's own farm plot. The room is arranged around a large oval bar, with open fireplaces for cold mountain nights and curved archways framing smaller dining nooks. Sections of the window walls fold open onto a wrap-around terrace shaded by a cherry blossom tree that is about a century old. The restaurant and bar seat up to 120 or hold 200 standing. Bringing in the covered terrace lifts that to 160 seated or 250 standing, and the terrace alone seats around 60. For a smaller group, The Loft sits just off the main floor and takes up to 45 seated or 60 standing while keeping the buzz of the room. Groups can book a private or semi-private dinner, a standing cocktail party, or the whole restaurant for their function. Engagements and wedding receptions are hosted here too, and the team also plans birthdays, anniversaries and other milestone gatherings. The executive chef writes a menu for each event, from canapés and grazing tables of seasonal and artisan produce to a two or three-course group dining menu drawn from the à la carte list. The bar manager puts together the drinks, and the wine list leans on New South Wales producers alongside house cocktails and alcohol-free options. A portable 75 inch screen is available if you need speeches with slides or a presentation.
