About YHA Sydney Harbour

YHA Sydney Harbour is a purpose-built hostel in The Rocks, run by YHA Australia, the not-for-profit hostel network headquartered in Sydney. The building sits over The Big Dig, a preserved archaeological site from some of Sydney's earliest colonial housing, and its rooftop terrace looks straight across to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Every room has its own ensuite, and the property was refurbished with new private rooms, a remodelled cafe and a rooftop bar. Groups of 10 or more book through YHA's Groups team, and the property can take groups of up to 110. A group is given its own bedrooms, not shared with other guests, and rooms are allocated close together. Most groups stay in 4 or 6-share ensuite rooms, with twin and double ensuite rooms for anyone who wants more privacy. There are also 21 harbour-view private rooms with queen or king beds and large smart TVs. Groups get a dedicated lounge and dining area with a TV, which other in-house groups may also use, and can order on-site catering. The Big Dig education centre can be hired in the evenings and on weekends for presentations or a movie night, seating up to 100. The rooftop bar serves Australian beer, local wine and cocktails from 2pm to 10pm, and Trails Cafe runs downstairs. Guests can't bring their own alcohol onto the property, and the house rules rule out excessive noise and drinking, so this suits a group planning dinners and a night out in the city rather than a party at the hostel. Circular Quay, Wynyard and Barangaroo stations are all within walking distance, and the pubs and restaurants of The Rocks are on the doorstep.

Nightly room rates aren't published on YHA's website; group stays are quoted by the Groups team. Single-night group stays carry a surcharge of $5 per person, and towel hire for multi-share rooms is $2 per towel. Continental breakfast is $12 per person pre-booked or $14 at the property. Staying groups can hire the Big Dig centre for $130 per room for a morning, afternoon or evening block, $260 for both rooms, $525 for 9am to 5pm or $680 for 9am to 9pm.

House Rules & Stay Details

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am, and reception is open 24 hours. All rooms have ensuites; bed linen is included for groups, towels are included in private rooms and can be hired for multi-share rooms. Private rooms have wifi, air conditioning, a hairdryer, and tea and coffee. There is a shared guest kitchen, laundry, cafe and rooftop bar. The property is smoke and vape free, guests can't bring alcohol onto the property, and the house rules don't allow excessive noise or drinking. Everyone shows photo ID and has a profile photo taken at check-in, and sleeping bags and outside linen aren't allowed. Co-living rooms are for guests 18 and over, and under-18s must be with a responsible adult. For groups, final numbers are due 30 days before arrival and a bond may be required at the manager's discretion.
