About Sonia Thomas Wedding Celebrant
A registered marriage celebrant for both civil and religious weddings, Sonia Thomas is based in Melbourne and also marries couples in the Yarra Valley. Outside celebrancy, she is a pastor and teacher in the Christian church and has spoken publicly for over 35 years. Couples wanting a faith-based ceremony can include scripture, prayers and blessings, while a civil wedding gets the same care without the religious content. The first planning meeting can be face to face at her office or held on Zoom, at a day or evening time. Sonia completes and lodges every legal form, from the Notice of Intended Marriage to the no-legal-impediment declaration and the certificates. She then works through vows, readings, poems and music with you so the ceremony reflects your story. Choosing the Diamond package brings a rehearsal at a place you agree on, ceremony music played through a Bose PA with a wireless mic, an optional decorated signing table, a keepsake certificate and vows, and your official certificate ordered for you. Smaller celebrations can use the Gold micro wedding package, and couples celebrating a big anniversary can book a vow renewal. Sonia is qualified with a Certificate IV in Marriage Celebrancy and another in Training and Assessment. Send an enquiry to check whether your date is free.

Service Details
Silver is a legals-only ceremony held in Sonia's office with two witnesses. Vow renewals come with a draft script to review and a bound copy of the ceremony. The Notice of Intended Marriage has to be lodged at least one month ahead of the wedding.

Can Sonia include Christian elements in our ceremony?
Yes. Sonia is a Christian pastor, so scripture, prayers and blessings can be woven in. If you prefer, the ceremony can stay entirely civil.
What comes with the Diamond package?
A planning meeting, all the legal paperwork, a ceremony written around your chosen vows and readings, unlimited support and a full rehearsal. It also brings a Bose PA and wireless mic, the option of a styled signing table, and your official certificate ordered from Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Can we have a legals-only wedding?
Yes. The Silver legals-only package is $750 and takes place in Sonia's office after two paperwork meetings, with a short exchange of vows and two adult witnesses.
How do we plan the ceremony with Sonia?
Your first meeting is in person at her office or on a Zoom call, and day and evening appointments are offered. From there you choose vows, readings, poems and music together and she drafts the ceremony.
Does Sonia conduct vow renewals?
Yes. Couples marking an anniversary get an initial meeting, her collection of poems, sample vows and music ideas, and a draft script to review. A printed certificate and a bound copy of the ceremony can be included, and a PA system is available for an extra fee.
