About Sam Lavery: The Celebrant
Sam Lavery is based in Melbourne and works full time as a celebrant and MC, having led over 500 weddings, many of them in the Yarra Valley. Before that he spent years in stand-up comedy and podcasting, so his ceremonies are relaxed and properly funny without the jokes taking over. The process has three parts. An easy first conversation covers how it all works and answers your questions, then, once you have booked, Sam handles the legal paperwork and writes a ceremony built around your story. On the day he marries you, and every couple also receives his guide to writing vows. Bookings range from elopements with five people to weddings of 500 guests, as well as legals-only weddings needing only two witnesses, and same-sex couples are among the many he has married. A battery-powered PA lets him run a ceremony outdoors, well away from any power point, and it can play your ceremony music too. Many couples also ask him to MC the reception, keeping the night moving once the vows are done. A roaming video guestbook can be added for $499, with Sam recording guest messages through cocktail hour and sending you an edited compilation within 24 hours. Legals-only ceremonies in the Yarra Valley start at $590, full ceremonies are quoted on your date, time, venue and MC needs, and you can send an enquiry to book.

Frequently asked questions
Does Sam Lavery marry couples in the Yarra Valley?
Yes. Yarra Valley weddings are a regular part of his calendar, at venues across the region.
How much is a legals-only ceremony?
Legals-only ceremonies in the Yarra Valley start at $590. You need two witnesses and at least 30 days of notice before the date, and Sam looks after the paperwork.
Will the ceremony just be a comedy set?
No. His comedy background helps guests settle in and laugh, but he tells your story with plenty of warmth and keeps the meaningful parts at the centre.
Can Sam also MC our reception?
Yes. Many couples book him for both, so the person who married you also keeps the evening on schedule once the ceremony is over.
What is the roaming video guestbook?
It is a $499 add-on where Sam films short messages from guests during cocktail hour. You receive an edited compilation within 24 hours of the wedding.
