About Fancy That Costumes
Fancy That Costumes has been dressing Sydney up since 1987, when two women from the costume department of the television show It's a Knockout decided to do something with a wardrobe full of lycra. The business passed to Belinda in 2011 and now runs from a single store on Willoughby Road in Crows Nest. It is a hire house first. Costumes are racked behind the counter rather than on open rails, with iPads on the counter to browse the range, and the staff ask enough questions to get you into the right outfit quickly. Hire costumes start at $35 and run to about $155 for the deluxe pieces, with most of the range between $79 and $89, and every hire is styled top to toe with the accessories that belong with it. A hire wig is another $10 on most outfits, and basic alterations are done in store so the fit is right. The kids hire range is limited to Australian colonial costumes for school dress-up excursions, though children's costumes to buy are a separate part of the range. On the balloon side there are bouquets from $17, organic and curly tail designs, columns, arches, garlands, ceiling and dance floor balloons, numbers and letters, and custom printed balloons. The standard hire period is three days, and a weekend hire can be collected from the Thursday and returned by close of business the following Monday. Easter and Christmas costumes are overnight hire only through their peak weeks. How far ahead should I book a costume?

Popular themes go early, and the Halloween and Christmas periods are the tightest of the year, so it pays to book as soon as your date is set. Easter and Christmas costumes are overnight hire only through their peak weeks, which narrows the window further.

How long do I get the costume for?
The standard hire period is three days, such as Monday to Wednesday or Tuesday to Thursday. For a weekend you can collect from the Thursday and return by close of business the following Monday. Returns past the due date are charged at $22 for each day for adults and $11 for children, up to three days, after which the full hire fee applies again.
