About The Wombarra Bowlo

The Wombarra Bowlo is the Scarborough Wombarra Bowling Club, a community-owned club on Lawrence Hargrave Drive with ocean and escarpment views. It has kept its original 1960s character, from the patterned carpet to the timber honour boards, and it wears its few rough edges proudly. Bowls has been played on its greens since the 1950s, and the club still runs social and competition bowls alongside live music and markets. Barefoot bowls is played on the upper green across seven lanes, each taking two to six players in two-hour slots between midday and sunset. Monday to Thursday afternoons are free outside public holidays, while Friday to Sunday needs a booking at $60 a lane, with up to two extra players at $12 each. Work groups can also book a guided bowls event on the competition green, with a club bowler as guide and score keeper. For parties, the club can rope off an area of the beer garden or clubhouse for a modest fee, and the Black Duck Bistro caters with Thai entrees, canapés and pub-style platters ordered a week ahead. A large marquee, a house DJ and an outdoor or private bar can be added for bigger events. Christmas parties, special birthdays, engagements and work functions are all welcome, though the club does not host 18th birthdays.

Wombarra Bowlo was a total accident for us. We were meant to go somewhere else, missed the plan entirely, and ended up here instead. Honestly, it felt like a win. First up, it’s dog friendly (on lead), which immediately…
