About Creative Makes
Founder Mel and a small team of practising artists run Creative Makes, an open-ended art studio in Hastings built around process rather than templates. Beyond its weekly classes, the space can be hired for private parties and creative events for children and adults. Adult events suit a birthday, a hens night, a work function or simply a night of making with friends. Your group chooses between a clay workshop, mixed media or a mindful art session, and the team shapes the evening around the mood you are after, from quiet and reflective to loud and silly. Guests bring their own drinks and snacks, and the studio supplies all materials and tools, guided facilitation and full use of the space. Nobody needs experience, and there is no single right result everyone is expected to copy. Children's parties take over the whole studio for two hours. Painting, collage and construction materials are laid out, a facilitator supports the making, and the kids decide what they create. Families can arrive before the start time to set up their own food, cake and decorations, and the team looks after the clean-up afterwards. The session is talked through beforehand so it suits the children's ages and interests. Studio hours run from Monday to Friday, while weekends are kept for booked events. How much does an adult creative event cost?
Adult events are priced by group size: $505 for up to four people, $565 for up to six, $625 for up to eight and $795 for up to ten. Larger groups and custom sessions are quoted on enquiry.
What does a kids' art party include and cost?
A kids' party is $470 and covers up to 10 children (ages 4 and up), plus $38 for each extra child. It includes the whole studio for two hours, a facilitator, all art materials and the clean-up. Sunday bookings carry a 15% surcharge.
Can we bring drinks and food?
Yes. Adult groups bring their own drinks and snacks, and families hosting a kids' party bring the food, cake and decorations, with time allowed before the booking to set everything up.
What kind of art will we make at an adult event?
Groups choose from a clay workshop, a mixed media session or mindful art-making. Facilitators guide the group, but there are no templates, so each guest creates their own piece and no experience is needed.
Can we book on a weekend?
The studio is open on weekdays for classes, and weekends are set aside for booked events only. Send an enquiry with your preferred date, and note that kids' parties held on a Sunday attract a 15% surcharge.
