About Billy Goat Karaoke
Billy Goat Karaoke is a hosted karaoke service run by karaoke DJ Thommo, based in Sydney and hosting a regular show in Katoomba. On the last Sunday of each month he runs an afternoon session at the Katoomba Family Hotel, and he takes private and corporate bookings around the Blue Mountains too. He has been hosting karaoke for almost 20 years. The point of booking a host instead of a machine is the person running it. Thommo keeps the order fair, judges the mood and works on getting nervous first-timers up to sing, and he only takes a song himself when nobody else is waiting. His view is that everyone is welcome and every singer has something to offer. A private or work booking is a single three-hour show, and more time can be added in half-hour lots while people are still waiting to sing. He arrives with the sound system, lights, a monitor showing the singer the words, song books, request slips, pens and props. Your venue needs a large TV or projector so the room can follow along, or he can supply a 42 inch screen for a small fee. Requests go up to the stage on paper slips, with one song per person each round, and the song list is published so you can ask for additions early in the week. Singers hand up a slip with their name, song and artist, and the rotation gives each person one song a round, with a duet or group number counting as everyone's turn. Songs missing from the published list can usually be added with a request early in the week.

He runs Sunday afternoon karaoke at the Katoomba Family Hotel on the last Sunday of each month, from 1pm until about 4pm and often later. The hotel is a short walk from Katoomba station.
How long is a private show?
Three hours to start with. More can be added in 30-minute blocks if singers are still queuing for the mic.
Can I hire the karaoke equipment without a host?
No. The equipment only ever comes with Thommo hosting the night. Tracks on a USB stick or from YouTube cannot be played, as his licence does not allow it.
