About Sparkle Marquees
Sparkle Marquees hires out handmade marquees from its base in Newcastle. Each tent is made by hand in India using long-standing techniques, with 200gsm cotton, mirror work and quality threads, and the outer cover is treated to resist water and fire. There are two ranges. The Traditional marquees go up with more poles and pegs in the classic way and come with either white linings or red hand-stitched patterned linings, in sizes from 7 x 7m to 7 x 21m. The Maharaja range has no centre poles, which opens up the floor, and can be held down with weights rather than pegs. That means it can go on decks, driveways and paved areas as well as grass, in sizes from a 4m round pavilion up to 6 x 30m. The cotton canvas breathes better than a PVC marquee, so it holds warmth in winter and stays cooler in summer while keeping the rain out. Side panels can be left open or closed to suit the weather. Marquees can be joined to make larger shapes, and the team hires out solid timber flooring in 3m bays, a laminate floor for dancing or dining, and a lighting package of festoons and fairy lights. Couples use the tents for receptions, and companies book them for conferences and outdoor festivals. The company says the craftspeople who make its tents are paid above the average local wage. A 6 x 3m Maharaja or 6m round pavilion is $770, a 7 x 7m Traditional marquee is $1,540, a 7 x 21m Traditional is $2,750 and the 6 x 30m Maharaja is $3,080. Lighting packages start from $110. Delivery and installation are quoted on top, and every hire includes public liability insurance.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests can a Sparkle Marquees tent hold?
It depends on the size. The 4m round pavilion suits about 20 standing, the 7 x 14m Traditional marquee takes 170 standing or 110 seated, and the 6 x 30m Maharaja at the top of the range fits 300 standing or 200 seated.
What is the difference between the Traditional and Maharaja ranges?
Traditional marquees use more poles and pegs and come with white or red patterned linings. Maharaja marquees have no centre poles and can be weighted, so they work on decks, driveways and grass.
Can the marquees cope with bad weather?
Yes. The cotton canvas is watertight and fire-retardant, and the three-layer build keeps guests warm in winter and cooler in summer. Side panels can be set open or closed.
Is flooring or lighting available?
Solid timber flooring is hired in 3m bays and there is a laminate floor for dancing or dining, both usable inside or outside a marquee. A lighting package with festoons and fairy lights starts from $110.
Are delivery and set-up included in the price?
No. The published prices cover the marquee hire only, and delivery and installation are quoted separately for your site. Public liability insurance is included with every hire.
